Character Analysis: This vastly underrated, drama/sitcom hybrid, from West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin, that was gone far too soon after a second season cancellation is next up for character analysis. Will this cast be SP heavy as one would think in a sports-heavy environment?

Meet the Characters

Dan Rydell (portrayed by Josh Charles) - Best Guess: ESTP - In recent portraits, I have started to notice patterns between a portrait of a character that is "healthy", and an identical portrait to one that is not. Overall, this cast of characters seem to be very healthy for a TV show. Dan, appears to be the exception to the rule. As a typical ESTP, he thrives on attention, is a smooth talker, quickly involved--but less inclined to follow through. The main aspect of his "unhealth" seems to be seen in his romantic encounters. He is quick to approach the ladies, but seems to have an easily bruised ego if pushed away. This has caused many moments where I questioned the nature of his T. Though the effects of a bruised ego (especially to an ESTP) really has nothing to do with ones F-side. Like a moth, he gets drawn back to the flame over and over, and rarely learns. Believing in his salesman like approach, he keeps going back for more. Strongest Letter(s): SP

Casey McCall (portrayed by Peter Krause) - Best Guess: ESTJ- Unlike fellow anchorman Dan, Casey, although another strong, male, T-personality; he is much more aggressive and motivated (J). In the rare instances when Casey and Dan do not get along, it revolves around Casey being too assertive in acting as the "lead" man, rather than working as a team. This is a problem that many partnerships have when a TP and TJ are working together. The J automatically begins to assert his role and "suggest" how things proceed. Casey, I believe, is an SJ--though not in an extreme. He is much more traditional, conservative than Dan, chases the one woman whom he looks sentimentally on from their history together (unlike, say Dan, who can not stay focused in such a way). Dana Whitaker (portrayed by Felicity Huffman) - Best Guess: ESFJ- Dana is most often seen running around the office stressing over her responsibilities as the main producer, or involved in complicated romantic situations were she is equally absorbed. At first glance, she appears to have some SFP care-free type traits, but she is too high stress for this type. As the lead producer she needs to be an organized J and she is relatively successful. She is not one to back down, especially in a situation revolving around emotional aspects (see interpersonal relationships). EFJ's can be easily stirred, and Dana is not one to be crossed. On the other hand, she uses these same traits to protect and provide for those under her, taking the fall when needed. Making sure their jobs are protected. Strongest Letter(s): FJ

Jeremy Goodwin (portrayed by Joshua Malina) - Best Guess: INTJ - While the sports industry, and sports fans themselves are dominated by the "S" (concrete) element, many times an NT can be just as passionate. While the SP or SJ might analyze the physical prowess, the hierarchy of the figures involved, or even the emotional impact, the NT can thrive on number crunching, analyzing data, detecting patterns, and the pure in-game strategies. For all of these latter reasons, Jeremy, a very solid NT without question, thrives in the sporting environment; almost as the office "professor". A man that many go to when needing critical analysis. He is very assertive in acquiring this knowledge which leads me to believe that he is a J, not a P. In a stroke of TV fantasy (or is it?) Jeremy, an awkward, introverted NT, somehow ends up romantically involved with the ESFP, Natalie (below). While this works or not, is a fantasy or not, I am not sure. What I do know is, they did portray very accurately of an NT in a relationship in such a scenario--once this relationship was established. Many awkward moments follow. Jeremy struggling to grasp emotional needs, etc. Strongest Letter(s): NT

Natalie Hurley (portrayed by Sabrina Lloyd) - Best Guess: ESFP- Natalie, the assistant producer to Dana, is a very typical SFP. She likes to have fun, leans on her emotions, and is a kind person--though capable of venom if hurt. Like others in this drama, she is of a "healthy" nature and is able to complete her responsibilities as a producer. Typical to her portrait, she has fun doing her job (it helps that she is true sports fan) and because she works within a group of people in a lenient environment (where ESFP's thrive), she is able to have success where sometimes SP's may fail in terms of responsibility. Strongest Letter(s): FP

Issac Jaffe (portrayed by Robert Guillaume) - Best Guess: ISTJ- Issac is the quiet leader of the studio. He is a responsible man that sets forth goals and accomplishes them. Though a very strong TJ, and despite being the highest ranking employee: due to his introverted nature, he will only be confrontational if needed. If it is needed, his point is clearly made. Usually the target of these "confrontations" will fall in line as he is deeply respected as a healthy SJ should be. Issac mixes just the right balance between friendship and leadership; he is very able in his role. Strongest Letter(s): IJ

Character Analysis: 30 Rock, the brilliantly written NBC comedy. Quirky, crazy, and a cast full of characters that are begging to be profiled.

Meet the Characters

Liz Lemon (portrayed by TinaFey) - Best Guess: INFJ - Liz may be the most complex person on this cast. If you read all profiles here, you will find that most are exaggerated in their types; and usually at a drastically unhealthy level. Liz, appears to be no better off, but one might wonder if it is simply a product of what she has to deal with on a day-to-day basis. Her head is often somewhere else, she is unfocused on what is in front of her. Highly uncomfortable in social, concrete situations. She is a definitive N. In her clashes with her staunchly NTJ superior, she usually walks away flustered. (A clash between an INFJ vs ENTJ with different principles can lead to an ugly situation.) Jack Donaghy wins every time (and as her boss, winning a verbal spat simply means policy is now implemented). Liz is thus thrown in a Lion's Pit where she is forced to deal with totally unhealthy SJ's, SP's and NT's. While INFJ's (on a healthy level at least) make excellent one-on-one counselors (as Liz does with Jenna who desperately needs any help she can get), Liz is often overwhelmed and walks away completely drained after dealing with the "crazies" under her. Jack Donaghy (portrayed by Alec Baldwin) - Best Guess: ENTJ - Jack is a take-charge leader with a penchant for the "big picture". Not one to get emotional, or even worry about stomping on the feelings of others (unless in the setting of a romantic relationship--he tends to loosen up), those under him know to follow his lead, and those who don't are often left behind. Much smarter than an ESTJ middle-manager, he is the leader behind a large corporation with his eye on the top seat. Jack wants authority, not to push others around, but simply to implement his ideas. In his view, he is completely qualified and shows it with an NTJ-style arrogance. Liz, (or as he likes to simply call her "Lemon"), usually is the one who has to balance his overzealous ways with the less driven group (along with the less stable) under her. Usually torn by her emotional ways, she is usually caught between Jack's win-at-all-cost attitude and balancing it with the needs of others. In the end, she usually has no chance in standing up to him and walks away with slight emotional damage (as many do when confronting an ENTJ). Strongest Letter(s): TJ

Kenneth Parcell (portrayed by Jack McBrayer) - Best Guess: ENFP - At first glance, Kenneth seems to be a true SJ. Rule abiding, organized, clean-cut. But then, Kenneth is one of those exaggerated TV characters full of conflict. So looking deeper into his motives, I believe he shows much more in the way of an NF. He is extremely idealistic, never sees the bad of any situation, not practical like an SJ in any way (and SJ's tend to be pessimists), Kenneth is not just a half glass full type, he is a glass full and overflowing. He tries to change others for the better and personal relationships are extremely important. Yes he is organized, but he is not an FJ who tends to break down under changes. Kenneth is well prepared for change (P) and has proven to be a adaptable. Especially in his constant dealings with the erratic Tracy and Jenna. Strongest Letter(s): EF

Tracy Jordan (portrayed by Tracy Morgan) - Best Guess: ESFP - Tracy is an extreme ESFP. Every single trait of his are completely imbalanced. Probably, most prominent of them all is his F-side. Almost every line that comes from his mouth (besides being extremely loud) are motivated by pure feeling. He is easily classified as one who is needy. Needs to be coddled. Needs to be needed. He is extremely sensitive and therefore requires the presence of Grizz, Dot.com, and Kenneth to give time constant attention at all times. Without attention, he would literally (okay, maybe not "literally") wither away into nothingness. Along with his lack of "professionalism" (usually seen in his casual attire and speech), Tracy also focus much of his time with many physical vices that are usually traits associated with an SP. Naturally, as an ESFP Performer, he obviously succeeds as the star of TGS as an over-the-top comedian. Strongest Letter(s): EEEE FFFF !!!!

Jenna Maroney (portrayed by Jane Krakowski) - Best Guess: ESFP - Jenna, like Tracy is an ESFP to the core and is just as extreme. However, because they have different balances in different traits, they do have strong differences as well. Jenna, is also what we call "needy" and appears to be at a much more unhealthy level than Tracy is in this area. They both exhibit signs of very strong F qualities that impact their daily decisions. One noted difference is that Jenna is much more of a concrete thinker (S) than even Tracy (how is this possible?). Almost every thought and worry that comes to her mind revolves around superficial issues; issues that can only be seen in front of her. Unlike Cerie (below) who seeks attention in massive amounts (possibly because of a privileged, egotistical upbringing), Jenna does seek this out as well--but for much different reasons. She has deeply ingrained emotional hurt and is constantly seeking some sort of confirmation of her worth and does this by acting out in front of others. Strongest Letter(s): EEEE SSSS !!!!

Pete Hornberger (portrayed by Scott Adsit) - Best Guess: ISFP - Pete is a difficult one to profile. So let's establish what we know. He is not overly conservative, and seems to display no evidence of organization, promptness, and at times can appear disshelved. I just don't see any evidence of Pete being an abstract thinker either so everything thus far can rule out NT, NF or SJ. He seems to be a sensitive person (almost in an unhealthy way) that shows an F side. He is clearly introverted and seems almost intimidated by pressure applied from others (I). So at this point, he appears to be an ISFP. Out of all 16 profiles, ISFP's are known for being the most gentle type, caring and artistic. I'd say Pete is at an unhealthy level in most of these traits, but he does--in his own unique way--seems to show his "niceness" to others. Usually shown through his close relationship with Liz. Strongest Letter(s): IF

Frank Rossitano (portrayed by Judah Friedlander) - INTP - Dirty, insensitive, grimy, and pervy. Frank is a classic TP, at a very unhealthy level. Looking at the utilitarian style of dress, this alone shows his inner NT. (His choice of hats also seems to be another indication due to the required innovation.) Neither clean, nor motivated, he is a definitive P. Not the Schemer of an NTJ but an architect of possibilities of an NTP. He sits back and lets the world react to him, not the other way around. . Strongest Letter(s): TP

Cerie (portrayed by Katrina Bowden) - ESFP - Cerie seems to have been born into a life of privilege. She believes in really nothing but her own worth. Her dress (or lack of) easily indicates an SP "trending" style. Never focused on much of anything, and always found worshiping her own image, she seeks attention constantly. Not for overcompensation (see Jenna), but simply because it feeds her inner battery (E). Her ESFP is slightly less expressive then Jenna or Tracy, and that is because her F side is much more in check and her extroverted qualities does not come in the form of words, as much as attention whoring. Strongest Letter(s): SP

Toofer (portrayed by Keith Powell) - Best Guess: ISTJ - Toofer, always conservative and uncomfortable with the SP antics of Tracy and the NT carelessness of Frank, he simply wants to fit in as SJ's often do. Being a part of the "institution" being a key trait. Because Toofer has strong T trait's he is much better at tolerating those around him than an SFJ would. Toofer is usually only contributing to a conversation when called upon. When he volunteers dialog, it is usually to the point. He is one who is never much for conversing (I). Strongest Letter(s):IT

Eventually, I will profile Lutz, but I don't quite get the character yet. Suggestions? Pass it on!

So, overall, this cast is full of SP's and N's--two obvious traits found in show business.

Kobe Bryant -- Professional Basketball Player (NBA)

Kobe Bryant - Best Guess: INTJ - Introverted, reclusive, driven, manipulative, and a schemer, Kobe Bryant, I beleive, is a very strong INTJ.

Most people that have followed his career know that he began extremely introverted, and has a no-nonsense approach to his career. He was the Yin to Shaquille O'Neal's ESFP Yang. If Shaq was the joker, the lover, and the playmate--Kobe rarely talked to the public, did not smile and was fixated only on bettering his skills. At the cost of his reputation with the public--and even teammates. Kobe was--and still is--a definite I. As time has passed, circumstances have forced him out of seclusion as he has been the unchallenged team leader every since Shaq departed. He has been forced to speak and lead by example--even if it means forcing a smile or two. Once his private life became public in 2003 after the events of claimed marital infidelity, etc., he had to scheme his way into a new public image. It meant being playful on the court, joking with the media, "volunteering" to do radio interviews--everything changed. Even the once clean-cut Kobe (J) one day appeared with several visible tattoos in an image make-over. No, Kobe, did not have an SP's wild night that drunkenly allowed this to happen--it was planned as an NT would plan. (For an SJ would rarely have made this sacrifice to their conservative image.)

I believe Kobe's personality is extremely unique for his circumstances as there are rarely any NT's in professional sports. But when there is, they stand out from the crowd as most NT's would not choose professional sports unless logic dictated it to them (i.e. extreme skill & natural ability). It would not surprise me if Kobe, after his professional basketball career, succeeded in his next journey as he is extremely gifted on his mental capacities. At the same time, he may revert back to his reclusive state and keep a very low profile and we may never see much of him again...

And finally, a note on his playing style. Many NT's recognize their abilities as superior to those around them. Kobe clearly sees this as an opportunity to pick up his team and lead them on his back. While, he is very egotistical towards his abilities and guarded about his image, I do not believe he is showboating as an SP would (...and most in the NBA are SP's...). He simply wants to win. And if that means doing the work himself, he will take all of the shots. On the other hand, now as a veteran in the league, he has seen that basketball is a team sport and there is more involved than just scoring points (i.e. as seen in the 2004-2006 seasons). So with his strong J mentality, he has kept his drive in check--and has kept extremely focused on not carrying the entire load and allowing the team to come together. It is the ultimate INTJ war within himself. One side says he has to carry the burden being the superior one (NT), while the other side (TJ) is balancing this out...

While I have made a strong case of Kobe's INTJ traits, he does have some exceptionally strong ISTP qualities as well. Isolated on a journey by themselves, driven in their art, and good with their hands. Ultimately I do not believe the individual letters match up as Kobe is a strong J. Strongest Letter(s): ITJ

Manny Ramierez, Baseball Player

Manny Rameriez - Best Guess: ESFP - Manny is a blatant ESFP if I ever saw one.

He is a jokester, always casually playing with teammates, highly emotional (always wearing a huge smile)--all F signs. He doesn't think before making decisions (P). For example, pushing an old man around? Really? His unkempt dreadlocks scream SP to me. He is usually the center of attention inside any clubhouse and loves every second of it (E).

I believe each one of his letters are near extremes. Although, he does have uncharacteristic focus as a player; but does physical ability really influence personality? No. However, he is extremely disciplined and it shows by arriving early and practicing religiously. This has nothing to do with SJ rule-following (and take a look at Manny and one easily would confirm this), rather, when it comes to perfecting one's 'art', Manny is a true SP. Strongest Letter(s): FP

Character Analysis: We will now look at NBC's Heroes, the show with a large cast ensemble, most of which are filled with powers--sometimes quirky, sometimes destructive. [These reviews are only based on the characters first 2.5 seasons... in this type of show the characters are ever evolving. The majority of these profile are based on their introductory persona's.]

Meet the Characters

Claire Bennet (portrayed by Hayden Panettiere) - Best Guess: ESFP - Cheerleader. Duh? Her strongest trait must be her F side as she is fighting strong emotions in every episode. Making practical, logical choices is not her strong suit. Strongest Letter(s): FP

Noah Bennet (portrayed by Jack Coleman) - Best Guess: INTJ - Always plotting and one step ahead of his enemies (J). He is prudent and will bend the rules if it benefits his needs. In a sincere twist, he strongly cares for the welfare of his family, but not in an SJ traditional style. Rather in a strongly utilitarian manner. Strongest Letter(s): TJ

Mohinder Suresh (portrayed by Sendhil Ramamurthy) - Best Guess: INFJ - Always working in a lab isolated (IN), Mohinder works for the greater good (NF) and strongly believes in the principles of what he is doing in an almost NT-like fashion. However, I will settle on Suresh as an NF in that he does have strong feeling for people. Strongest Letter(s): NJ

Hiro Nakamura (portrayed by Masi Oka) - Best Guess: ENFP - Keirsey calls an ENFP a Champion. Hiro just loves this "superhero" role and fits perfectly in this. He is constantly talking (E) and every word is charged with emotion (F). Strongest Letter(s): ALL!

Ando Masahashi (portrayed by James Kyson Lee) - Best Guess: ISTJ - Seemingly a T, Ando spends a good amount of time worrying about what Hero's next action are (J). He does have that outwardly worldly desires of most SP's--but SJ's are very prone to this as well as an outlet for their otherwise tightly wound selves. Strongest Letter(s): S

Peter Petrelli (portrayed by Milo Ventimiglia) - Best Guess: INFP - Always walking around feeling the weight of his personal problems. Yet, Peter feels the guilt in not assisting others in their epic or even personal struggles. Strongest Letter(s): FP

Matt Parkman (portrayed by Greg Grunberg) - Best Guess: ISFJ -For one thing, Matt is a Police Officer. Usually an SJ choice. This coincides his usual conservative and cautious approach. He was upset at losing his job; upset at his wife cheating; and upset when breaking the normal routine. And in Heroes, this happens every episode; you can imagine the stress that comes with this character. Strongest Letter(s): FJ

Niki Sanders (portrayed by Ali Larter) - Best Guess: ISTP - Niki is not afraid to pick up a gun and use it. And well, if she doesn't have a gun, why not use your fists? She is a fiercely independent single mother on mission. Strongest Letter(s): TP

Nathan Petrelli (portrayed by Adrian Pasdar) - Best Guess: ESTP; with some I leanings - Always looking out for his own interests; skillfully tricking the citizens to vote form him as a politician--while hiding his true personality. Nathan seems to be a balances E and on occasion needs to "recharge". He is as down to Earth as they come and doesn't have a sense of the bigger world around him (S). Strongest Letter(s): ST

Angela Petrelli (portrayed by Cristine Rose) - Best Guess: ENTJ - Extremely manipulative in an almost ESTP fashion, but even more so controlling (TJ). She has a vision (N) for her children and it will be carried out (J). Strongest Letter(s): TJ

Sylar (portrayed by Zachary Quinto) - Best Guess: CRAZY- There is no type for this one. Sylar merely has emotional issues that need to be resolved. Clearly he is a P in that he kills almost randomly without planing too far ahead. Obviously a T because he does this without much regard. Strongest Letter(s): P

Adam Monroe (portrayed by David Anders) - Best Guess: ENTP - Always witty, and taking things as they come (P), without much thought for others (T), Adam may be able to wiggle his way out of anything. He has no regard for established guidelines and lives to please his own desires. While not being close to, but not as smooth as an ESTP, he has a much higher vision than this (N). Strongest Letter(s): TP

Juno (Movie)

Character Analysis: In my first personality profile of a movie, I have the task of dissecting the four principle characters of the critically acclaimed independent film--Juno. In Juno, I am only going to look at the title character herself, the father of her child (Bleeker), and the potential adoptive parents (Mark and Vanessa). The rest of the cast are merely side characters that were not developed to a large extent--with the exception of Juno's mother (SFJ?). It goes without saying, if you have not seen the movie, there are spoilers just ahead...

Meet the Characters

Juno MacGuff (portrayed by Ellen Page) - Best Guess: ENTP - Juno, an exceptionally well-written character has been known to turn a phrase or two (E). Often times, she is looking for reactions and to stir up a little mischief. Other times, she will just tell you how it is, without thinking about possible consequences (often, an NTP trait). Juno is a very strong T. She does not even hesitate to put her child up for adoption. Being still in high school, she immediately recognizes she is not in a position to be a mother. Therefore, it only is logical for her to give the child up. And she does it without much thought. She even volunteers to cut all ties with the baby once it is born--despite being offered otherwise. Clearly, emotions does not play in at all with her thinking. Of course even the strongest T is an emotional person too--they just keep things bottled up very easily. In due time, things will come to a head and an emotional meltdown is waiting nearby. Juno goes through this of sorts towards the end of the film, before the child's father--Bleeker--must step in to set things straight. Ironically, the one area where Juno is emotional is her romantic feelings towards Bleeker himself. Despite these feelings, she is known to act indifferent around him--that is until jealously sets in. (which can grab hold of any personality type). Looking at her appearance she dresses not to please (SP), not of what is expected (SJ). She dresses out of her own comfort and utility (NT). Strongest Letter(s): TP

Paulie Bleeker (portrayed by Michael Cera) - Best Guess: ISFP - In the Juno-Bleeker relationship, Bleeker is by far the the more sensitive, gentle, and caring of the two. He is a deeply emotional person and will fight for what he believes in. However, he will try to maintain a peaceful and harmonious relationship as long as possible before he will show this fighting spirit. Just as he tries to silently support Juno all along, he is eventually forced to go against his SFP nature and assert his opinions on her as a last resort once he feels she begins to act irresponsibly. As a long-distance track runner, he is often alone, reflective, (I) and soaking in the outdoor environment on his paths. This is a peaceful activity for a peaceful person. Strongest Letter(s): IF

Vanessa Loring (portrayed by Jenifer Garner) - Best Guess: ISFJ - Vanessa is a textbook example of an SJ. She is a traditionalist. She likes the nice suburban home, perfect family, white picket fence, with 2.5 children to care for. Although in her current situation (unable to become pregnant), she will settle for 1 child--Juno's unborn child. Looking at her house, she keeps everything clean and organized (J). Clutter is virtually non-existent. It is a "perfect" environment. Though I believe she is ultimately an I (i.e. soft-spoken), she does seem to have well attuned hosting skills, as she seems like one who enjoys entertaining others. However, this may be due to the "perfect" environment she tries so hard to nurture. In the end, we see she is a truly honest, caring woman that wants nothing more than to be a mother who is able to nurture her child to the fullest (F). Strongest Letter(s): SJ

Mark Loring (portrayed by Jason Bateman) - Best Guess: ESTP; leaning I - Vanessa's husband Mark is one who is able to put on images. While not being a full-fledged extrovert (he enjoys quiet time to himself where he can perfect his craft), he is enough of an ESTP which allows him to be smooth of tongue and to fit-in wherever he goes. Even his wife is fooled. He is a musician (another SP trait) and puts this before everything else--and in the end, including his family. The way he leads his life in this reckless manner shows strong STP qualities. Unlike his SJ wife, who is seeking the perfect family, Mark's SP years for his days of freedom and irresponsibility. Even though he can exist in such an organized environment, we see that Mark has his own music room that is far from an SJ-created environment. This is where he is able to be himself. Strongest Letter(s): ST

Felicity

Character Analysis: Let us now look into J.J. Abram's college-life drama of Felicity--a show noted for its low talking characters and darker lighting. I believe with these thematic elements this will be an F heavy show. Let us find out...

Meet the Characters

Felicity Porter - Best Guess: ISFP; with N leanings - ISFP's tend to be the most gentle and caring human beings. They are very sensitive and compassionate (F) and they do not seek to cause friction all the while trying to avoid confrontations. This perfectly describes Felicity. Most of her sensitive and emotional moments come from her own self-examination of her own feelings--almost in an N-like introspection of oneself. She is not quick to judge others or come to fast decision on her own. She is always searching for the possibilities (P). Like many ISFP's, Felicity is extremely artistic and has a passion for drawing. Strongest Letter(s): FP

Noel Crane - Best Guess: ENFJ; with SJ leanings - Noel is an incredibly complicated character. For a male, he has a very good handle on his emotions and is not afraid to make decisions based on his feelings (F). He is a very driven person (J) who succeeds academically and even in his employment choices after college. Because of his J'ness, he pursues (and is made) an RA (Resident Assistant). This job requires him to deal with fellow students on a one-on-one basis and for Noel to give out help and advice. Being an NF, he has a strong care for others and succeeds in this helping assignment. Part of his attraction to Felicity may be as a person who can guide her (she being a strong P) and as a way to help her along in her decision-making while helping her become a better person. Strongest Letter(s): NJ

Ben Covington - Best Guess: ESTP; leaning heavily towards ISTP - Ben is a great example of an SP. He is into sports and athletics (STP), not very concerned about education, and is of an extremely impulsive nature--often making decisions that he regrets later. Most of the romantic drama surrounding Ben involves him trying to figure out his feelings as they do not come very easy for him to display (T). He merely is an inventor coming up with new innovative ideas that all seem to stem around the NT desire for great efficiency. Meghan Rotundi - Best Guess: INFP - Meghan is often "taxed" when it comes to a social setting, and she is intensely private when it comes to her personal dealings (I). She does not have a concrete view of the world but lives in the imaginary world of a "Wicca" type setting (N). She clearly does not act on logic and has no use for INTP qualities and interest like examining small electronic objects and wondering how she works. That means Meghan is an INFP. In the way that Javier treats her and cares for her it is almost in an NF idealistic manner. He is quick to detect her feelings and inquire of them. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Character Analysis: Surprisingly the first Star Trek series (and perhaps only series?) that I have reviewed here is the vastly under-appreciated Deep Space Nine. Maybe it did not get very much love because of its dark setting and flawed characters. But for these very reasons I believe--in terms of strictly drama--it surpassed all other Trek film or television. Ultimately, however, it is the well-developed and deeper set of characters here that has intrigued me to profile this series.

Meet the Characters

Captain Benjamin Sisko - Best Guess: ESFJ; slight leanings towards ENFJ - Ben Sisko is the most complex Captain/Commander in the Star Trek universe. I believe first and foremost, Sisko is an SJ. He strongly believes in command structure, tradition, guidelines and he lives in the past. While he is an E, it comes very balanced. He can often be seen in his office by himself lost in his own thoughts. However, he loves to entertain, initiate conversation, and sometimes blurts his thoughts out loud--all signs of an extrovert. He is very emotional, despite seeming rigid or even stoic at times. He is a man with intense passion (F). When he feels strongly about something he will move to his NF side and try to be a difference-maker for the welfare of others. He sometimes shows glimpses of the N aloofness, though when he is giving commands he is clearly grounded. He does display T attributes on occasion, but I believe he is merely doing his job--and as a man with strong SJ inclinations, he must act responsibly. Ultimately, I believe it is his run in with the Bajoran "prophets" that has led Sisko to develop his NF side. Strongest Letter(s): FJ

Major Kira Nerys - Best Guess: ENFJ; slight leanings toward ESFJ - Kira, the stations second-in-command, is a tough one to figure out and profile. Not only am I unsure of her S/N, her T/F is almost as difficult to figure out. So let us first look at what we know. I believe the way she walks--face first--into confrontation shows that she is an E--still a balanced extrovert, however, as she often needs time to "recharge" as well. Even so, a true introvert would have a difficult time taking the lead as Kira often does. She is insanely focused on her tasks and missions, and does not tolerate disorganization--physical or otherwise. J may be her strongest trait. I will settle on her being an F due to the fact that she is often moved to action. For example, her anger towards the Cardassian occupation--and her hated of the Cardassians themselves--moved her to join the resistance cell. To answer the S/N question, one must look at the overall situation. Is she an NF or SJ? I believe she can play both roles but leans slightly towards her NF side due to the fact that her actions are often prompted for the greater cause. Of course, she is a strict rule follower and can enforce them as an ESJ. Kira has no problem making Quark miserable if she detects any dishonesty and she works well with Odo who is the textbook example of an SJ. All in all, Sisko and Kira work well together because their personalities are virtually identical. Strongest Letter(s): EJ

Jake Sisko - Best Guess: ENFP; possibly INFP - Jake is an adventurer and wants nothing more than to explore the universe and to learn and experience the adventures that can be found outside of his father's stationary life in Starfleet. Sometimes enthusiastic (ENF), other times deeply reflective (INF), Jake sometimes has and exhibits a "moody" side (F). Like many journalists, Jake's intent is to help do good by spreading "the truth" of life in the more difficult parts of the universe. Strongest Letter(s): NP

Constable Odo - Best Guess: ISTJ - Odo is an inspector. He is the guardian of what is--not just right and wrong--but what is lawful or unlawful. Almost nothing is successfully pulled underneath him without him knowing. He is an extreme introvert (I!) and has virtually no need for people, who merely get in the way of him accomplishing his job (T). His strongest desire is to lead his people--the Founders--back into an upright way of life where they can--first be brought back to justice--and then change their ways to what is thought to be "lawful". Chief Miles O'Brien - Best Guess: ISTP - O'Brien as an ISTP makes for the perfect mechanic. He has a hands on attitude about most things in his life and rather just get down and dirty rather than taking the time to think things through (P). Strongest Letter(s): TP

Doctor Julian Bashir - Best Guess: ENFP - Dr. Bashir may be the most enthusiastic member of this cast of characters. He is often portrayed as a young and naive person who has an idealistic impression of the universe. Even when the realities of the station that is Deep Space Nine starts to sink in to Bashir, he still is a man full of empathy, who readily attends to his patients. He is a man of goodwill who wants to display goodness to all people and he is always ready to drop what he is doing in order to help others. We saw this in one episode where he was concerned about curing the manufactured drug addiction that the militaristic and hateful race of the Jem'Hadar have been enslaved too. He would never be found organizing great medical environments and learning centers, but rather would be on the field working with and amongst the dangers he faces. On Bashir's interpersonal relationships--most notably with Dax (romantic interest) and O'Brien (close friend), he views them in a very idealistic manner and has an extraordinarily close bond with them. Strongest Letter(s): NF

Jadzia Dax- Best Guess: ENTP - Though appearing to be only a young woman, by the name of Jadzia, she is a member of the Trill race that are joined in a symbiotic relationship with a "symbiont" named Dax. Dax has had many other hosts besides Jadzia and has lived for hundreds of years. Their personalities are thus joined and melted into one... So what we have is the outgoing and spontaneous Jadiza (EP) who has the experience of the Dax symbiont. She has lived many lives on many worlds and has developed opinions about anything and everything. She is interested in a wide range of hobbies and loves to learn. It is no wonder she is the Science Officer aboard Deep Space Nine. She roughs it up with Klingons and jokes with the Ferengi despite their sexist comments directed towards her; she is a T that is learned to be very thick-skinned. She does not have the smoothness or conversational skills of an ESTP and so she clearly is an ENTP who likes to learn the tidbits, debate the facts, provoke for reaction, and adventure new surroundings. Strongest Letter(s): NP

Worf - Best Guess: ISTJ; leaning towards ISFJ - Worf, in Deep Space Nine, has not changed his personality from his days on The Next Generation. Being from a race that obsesses over tradition and hierarchy, and coming from a background in security, Worf is clearly an SJ. Most of the time he'd choose walking barefoot on hot coals as opposed to conversing with someone on a casual level (I). Though often showing emotional outbursts, (F) he only acts in a logical fashion (T). Strongest Letter(s): IJ

Quark - Best Guess: ESTP - Do I really even have to profile Quark any further than stating that he is a an ESTP? Well, for those that can't see this, let's just say this: His entire existence is based on turning a profit. He has no loyalty other than to wealth. He would sell his own mother if it meant an extra bar of gold-pressed platinum for him. He is quite successful at turning a profit because his ability to sell and his ESTP influenced quality of "smooth talking". If it was not for the extreme SJ nature of Odo (that borderlines obsession), Quark would possibly have been far more successful in his "business" dealings. In addition to his ESTP nature, he has all the qualities of an SP that thrive on stimulating feelings that benefit the "here and now", in very worldly driven display of pleasure, comfort and luxury. About the only redeeming factor to Quark is that every rare once in a while, he will allow that deep down he is fond of the assigned Starfleet crew and even sometimes there is a hint of feeling of closeness with Odo--despite their intense rivalry. Nog - Best Guess: ESTJ; leans ESTP - Nog has an extremely conflicting nature. In one sense, he is in the mold of his uncle Quark. From the age of his early teens he was focused on making a profit and scamming others to do it. Like the typical SP child he found himself often in trouble. Eventually he inexplicably joins Starfleet where he begins to exercise his SJ side. I believe this structured life suited Nog more naturally than his SP Ferengi upbringing. And to clinch that Nog is a J, he is extremely neat and can not tolerate disorganized environments. Once in the military, he has no qualms about ordering people around (TJ). Strongest Letter(s): ST

Rom - Best Guess: INTP; borderline INFP - Quark's brother, Rom, not the typical Ferengi in any way is more concerned about using technology and working with his hands. His social skills are virtually inept (I), but his ingenuity to make, build and design are off the charts. He is not a very strong T as he has shown a considerable amount of empathy for others. He is extremely aloof in the way NP's typically are, and is not very observant outside of technology matters. Strongest Letter(s): IP

Gul Dukat - Best Guess: ESTP - This Cardassian has no heart (T), and is perhaps the most manipulative character here. While Quark's ESTP is based on turning a profit, Dukat's is power and authority. His own authority. He is an extremely outgoing person that tries desperately to act like he cares and that he has your feelings in mind--but is is never more than an act. He always has motives to every act of kindness he seemingly displays. While he does have qualities of an ENTP (provocation, for one), he has SP trait's such as lovng power and living in the here and now. He acts on his impulses, not on a sense of rational intrigue. Garak - Best Guess: ENTP - Garak is easily the most enigmatic character here. One never knows who he is, or where he stands. Does he have his own agenda? Or is an admirable ally? If one is around Garak, one should never expect boredome to follow. Full of intrigue and knowledge, Garak will find a way to make you squirm. Whether it is him cutting corners or helping others, he will keep you on your toes. Strongest Letter(s): ET

Weyoun - Best Guess: ESTP - Weyoun's race (and all clones of "Weyoun" himself) was engineered with the sole purpose to be negotiators. Who else would you want to negotiate for you than an ESTP? The acclaimed master of words? If Quark's ESTP Motivation is profit, and Dukat's power, then Weyoun's is loyalty; to the Founders: his makers, his "Gods". The Weyouns excel at manipulating and maneuvering other's to complying with their own agenda. And they say anything with such an pained expression, that is often comes off as fabricated. They are essentially too good at what they do, that it gives up their goals in the end. Strongest Letter(s): ET

Interestingly, NT's are usually drawn to watch Star Trek, but this cast is NF heavy. But the very essence of Star Trek is one of an idealistic nature so it goes without saying. NF People in an NT setting.

Character Analysis: If you want to be technical, Dilbert was actually a cartoon television series at one time; thus staying with my pattern that I seemingly only profile television series. (Although I never stated this was my intent.) However, the Dilbert profile here is largely influenced by the actual comic strip--more so than the TV cartoon. While, the series was underrated and underwatched, it is the comic strip that has been a fixture for almost two decades now. Being the setting here is inside an engineering company, I believe there will be many NT's involved in these profiles. Let us now examine the world of Dilbert...

Meet the Characters

Dilbert - Best Guess: INTP - Dilbert is the quintessential engineer. Yes, a terrific problem-solver, and an astounding architect, but naturally having no social abilities whatsoever (I). He is often frustrated with his inept co-workers and the inefficient environment of a cubicle-inhabited world. Most of all, however, his annoyances mostly originate with his immediate supervisor--the Pointy-Haired Boss. Being an engineer, and by default a strong P, he has very little effect on changes to his environment and will never really find the resolve to quit his job or attempt to make any changes himself in order to adapt. It is what it is, with Dilbert, and his life is something that he must just put up with and endure. Strongest Letter(s): NT

Dogbert - Best Guess: ENTP - Like many ENTP's, Dogbert is an entrepreneur and an idea man. He can be seen taking part in many new activities and jobs. Some in an office environment, others in his own private time. Either way, never sticking with one very long. Unlike his ENTJ cousin--who takes the lead and sticks with it to the end--Dogbert quickly loses interest. He is merely a knowledge collector. He is incredibly intrigued by putting this knowledge to work in the real world and using Dilbert as a guinea pig. More often than not, Dogbert's mischievous activities cross the line to what is decent. But in the end, Dilbert somehow learns from the experiences--making Dogbert seem not that evil. It goes without saying that this dog is not a rule follower and makes his own way in life however he sees fit. It is one day at a time, with Dogbert. There's no rush. Strongest Letter(s): NP

Wally - Best Guess: ENTP - Wally is an engineer and can be technical minded if he choose. However, he has no time for loyalty, respect, or results. He is more interested in doing whatever he pleases. He does not understand--or more accurately--does not appreciate structure and organization that, for example, an SJ would. While he is very capable of doing his engineering job, he is more interested in creating a stir with his workmates and observing their reactions. An office environment has not melded very well with Wally. Unlike Dilbert, Wally's TP is so strong that he is just non-caring and jaded about a great many things. Given the right leadership, Wally may actually be productive one day. Strongest Letter(s): NP

The Pointy-Haired Boss - Best Guess: ESTJ- This nameless boss can never be mistaken for someone who looks at the big picture. He acts on whatever is put in front of his eyes, and usually goes with it--despite it usually backfiring in his own face. Being a strong, yet unhealthy T, this Pointy-Haired Boss makes for bad middle management. He does not understand anything that is even remotely close to what is thought as being logical (thus, "unhealthy"), yet he has no personal empathy for people or their feelings. This results in many unpopular ideas that backfire. This is often the source of frustration with all the employees underneath him--particular those who are. tech-oriented. Strongest Letter(s): ES

Alice - Best Guess: ESTP - Alice is a smooth-talker that shows the uncanny ESTP trait of manipulation. Whether it is her coworkers, Wally, Dilbert, or even if it the Pointy-Haired Boss, she is often seen orchestrating things in order to get her own way. At times, she may even be guilty of doing this merely for amusement. She has been known to talk her way through many of these situations rather smoothly and the other person involved never even saw it coming. Strongest Letter(s): ET

Ratbert - Best Guess: ENFP; with INFP leanings - Ratbert swings between the carefree world of an ENFP, to that of an INFP dealing with his inner turmoils. I believe Ratbert by nature is an extrovert (E) who gregariously approaches Dilbert in conversation on a regular basis. He seems to have a lonely streak and is looking for companionship and love (F). Because he was once a laboratory rat, and is often demeaned by the other characters, this has taken a toll on Ratbert's personality and it shows by his neediness that pushes him into INFP-hood. Catbert - Best Guess: ENTJ - Catbert takes the lead in all things evil. Unlike Dogbert, who is seen actively taking part in high-profile jobs and activities that take a large amount of ingenuity--not for the sake of evil intent as much as his own satisfaction and curiosity, but he eventually loses interest and moves on. Catbert, however, as the chief of Human Resources has found his niche and stays with it. He uses his job to manipulate and torture the office workers at any given chance. Not only was I right about the NT observation, but this is an NTP heavy cast of characters. This does make sense since the creator, Scott Adams, appears to be an XNTP himself.

Sydney Bristow - Best Guess: ISFJ - As tough as Sydney is, as much as she relies on her own physical process and dynamic fighting ability, she really is a sensitive person deep down that at times is extremely emotionally. She is able to control these feelings (usually) and channel this energy to help her focus on her strong abilities of instinct and survival. She does not fight just to fight, she is on missions that uphold the greater good so she can live in a world where her family is kept safe and where justice (SJ) rules. Strongest Letter(s): IJ

Jack Bristow - Best Guess: INTJ - Jack is the most strategic individual on this cast. Many of his missions require him to always plan for the next step. He is exceptional at being on top of tying up all of the loose ends (J). This is very helpful in his most dangerous objective, that is to remain close with his arch nemesis--Arvin Sloane, yet not reveal his true intentions. He has to watch his tracks, always. And at the same time, worry about the next step he will take. His off again and on again strained relationship with his daughter, Sydney, usually stems from the fact that he is not very effective in displaying or sharing his feelings, as one needs to do to be successful in an familial relationship. Michael Vaughn - Best Guess: INTJ - They say you--assuming the reader is female--marry your father. This is what Sydney Bristow will eventually do. Vaughn is essentially a younger version of Jack Bristow, perhaps with a better handle on his personal feelings. He makes up for this in his relationship with Sydney. He is able to manage it effectively (for the most part)--something her father was not able to do. Like Jack, Vaughn is calculating and will do whatever it takes in order to get what needs to be done. He will break the rules if the rules hinder him to exercise his own sense of justice. He is perfect in black ops as this often requires him to be innovative as an NT would. Strongest Letter(s): IT

Marcus Dixon - Best Guess: ISTJ - Dixon is an ISTJ that has simply chosen the wrong path. In the first couple of seasons he is working for Sloane, and serving Sloane loyally. He will make sure that all of Sloane's instructions, missions, etc. are carried out tot he fullest. And the rules will not be broken. Dixon is on a mission to uphold the law (SJ). However, he is unaware of Sloane's true identity and affiliation. So it is no doubt a crushing blow to Dixon when he finds out that his actions are contrary to what is right and lawful. Later on, when Dixon ends up on the right side of the law, working for an actual lawful organization, like many STJ's, he finds himself in charge. He has a tendency, when in this situation, to be unbending--even to those who he is close to, such as Sydney. Once again, regulations comes first. By the end of the series, Dixon, is no longer in charge, but still on the right side of the law and makes a valuable asset to the team. This is the best role suited for an ISTJ. Arvin Sloane - Best Guess: INTJ - The most calculating character, Sloane always has a plan (J) and is extremely goal-oriented. His plans will be carried out and his ideals enforced. At times, it seems he borders on obsession with these things (i.e. Rambaldi, his daughter Nadia, his sickly wife) in an unhealthy and unbalanced manner. While Jack has a caring side to him, and just does not know how to express himself in this area, Sloane's INTJ has an exceptionally strong T. He is as cold as they come. He will develop many close friendships, but instantly turn on any given one if it endangers any of his plans. His twisted ideals come before all. Strongest Letter(s) NT

Marshall Flinkman - Best Guess: INTP - Marshall is the ultimate INTP. He is absent-minded (NP) in all things that do not have to do with his technological gift of brilliance. Julian Sark - Best Guess: ENTP - Sark, though like Sloane is an NT antagonist, he is on the opposite side of the spectrum as an Extroverted Perciever, as opposed to an Introverted Judger. He simply takes things as they come, has no loyalties, waffles between criminal organizations, does whatever suits him at the moment. He does not have an agenda other than living a life that keeps the boredom away, a fact many NTP's constantly fight. Strongest Letter(s): TP

Will Tippin - Best Guess: ISFP; borderline INFP - Will is easily the nicest character listed here. He is just a down to earth, honest-hearted individual who just happens to fall into several bad situations because of his chosen associate. Namely, Sydney. It is really a pain to see all the on and off suffering of Will through seasons 1 and 2 of Alias--whether it is the emotional betrayal he at times may feel or the physical torture he endures. He deserves so much better! He is clearly a victim of circumstances. In any other life, as an ISFP, Will is the type of person that should be included in your circle of friends. Will also seems to have an NF nature as well, and part of this is displayed in the way that we truly wants to help others and to be someone's "soul mate". As a terrific journalist, he can help spread his ideals of goodwill. (No pun intended). Strongest Letter(s): FP

Eric Weiss - Best Guess: ESFP - If Will is the "nicest" of all the characters, Weiss is the friendliest; as ESFP's usually are. While not a performer in the strictest sense, he is witty and quick to liven up a boring discussion with a joke or two. He is very sensitive to the feelings (F) of others and will quickly initiate conversation (E) with you if it looks like you are having a bad day. In his last act on the series, he is seen breaking (a minor) rule in order to help his friends. He doesn't think twice about this as is usual for an SP. He has the desire to do field work, but it is just not a welcoming setting for any F-outside of SydnEy. He usually stays indoors. Strongest Letter(s): EF

All in all, and it looks like our suspicions were right as there is a heavy NT core to this cast within the main characters. There is also a strong SJ (law abiding) element. It is after all, the CIA.

Meet the Characters

Commander/Admiral William Adama - Best Guess: ISTJ; leaning towards ISFJ - Father Adama is a reflective man (I) that is not afraid to act tough-minded on whomever it is that is standing in front of him. It could be a family member (Apollo), a romantic interest (Laura), or a close friend (Tigh). The rules will be followed on his watch, and only in the most extreme situations will he bend them (SJ). He does have a softer side where he occasionally can show a more human element. So in the T vs F conflict, he is very balanced here. On occasion, if he does feel strongly about something, he can get protective and make a decision based on an emotional response. Strongest Letter(s): IJ

Captain Lee 'Apollo' Adama - Best Guess: INFP - The son of Admiral Adama, Lee is a passionate man that fights for what he believes in. We see this more strongly as the series progresses when Lee leaves the military (as one of the better fighter pilots) so he can make more of an impact on the fleet while being involved in politics. While not agreeing with Baltar's decision or reckless behavior, Lee honorably defended him at his trial based solely on principle. Lee has much on his mind to deal with in regards to his family. Most notably, his brother's death and estranged relationship with his father. Their relationship continues on a roller coaster ride for the entire series. Lee is on a mission to better himself as a person, but ultimately those around him too. Strongest Letter(s): NF

President Laura Roslin - Best Guess: INFJ - President Roslin is a strongly idealistic individual who cares deeply about the well-being of the fleet. Jack Shephard - Best Guess: ESFJ - Jack, the de facto leader of this group is constantly worrying about the well-being of the castaways (F) and usually chooses the safe and conservative approach when there is a choice (SJ). In true FJ fashion, he clashes with others by forcing his personal feelings on them. The true T's often ignore him and the F's sometimes end up alienated. Jack is extroverted and organized enough where all--but those with strong personalities--follow his directions. Strongest Letter(s): J

Kate Austen - Best Guess: ISFP; with heavy leanings toward ISTP - Kate is a contradicting individual. So let us first look at what we know. She is secretive of her past (I). She is a convicted law breaker. She does what she needs to do in order to accomplish what she wants. She seems to have a good handle on her environment and is a very observant person. (SP). T or F? This is the contradiction. Everything so far seems like a typical T attitude. She itstough, can be manipulative as an STP; but I believe it is merely a trait of an SP. Meet the Characters

Dr. Gregory House - Best Guess: INTP; possibly ENTP - House is possibly the most insensitive character on television. He only cares about results, just slightly ahead of himself. Though being extremely confrontational, a pot stirrer, and verbally aggressive (often E traits), he struggles to maintain any deep friendships (outside of Dr. Wilson), and seems to have the need to "recharge" after such encounters. This is often an introverted trait. Being completely innovative and having absolutely no use for normal practicing traditions, he is a solid NT. I believe he is a P because he often spontaneously prescribes a medical condition and/or treatment on his patients. Then in the end, he goes back and continues to refine his theories. It is a very open ended and impulsive attitude. He seems more comfortable and sure of himself when he is brain storming as opposed to when he comes to a judgment. Strongest Letter(s): NT

Dr. Lisa Cuddy - Best Guess: ESFJ - Cuddy is quick to balance House's strong T and open-ended ways with a more grounded and judicious--but ultimately emotional--element (FJ). As the supervisor of the staff, she follows (and enforces) the rules accordingly (SJ). It is no wonder, that though she is a gifted doctor she has rose to an administrative position. Part of the reason that Wilson can coexist with House is because he seems to view House as a project that can be fixed., a trait that can often be identified with an INFJ. He always wants to encourage him in the "right ways"--seemingly an SJ lean. But it is more out of principle, (NF) than traditional (SJ). Wilson can be puzzling because he is conservative and tends to shy away from House's rebellious attitudes. But ultimately, Wilson wants what is best for his friend and will do what needs to be done in order to help him. When House was under investigation for his over-the-counter drug addictions, Wilson is the only one who agrees to help the officer. He felt this was the best course of action. The Old Team

Dr. Eric Foreman - Best Guess: INTJ - Foreman is a character that has fluctuated from beginning to end. He has shown he is more apt to choose the safer and planned way in doing things (J); he often disagrees with House's more reckless P tactics. Foreman is a thinker (I) and he never acts impulsively until all aspects of the problem are looked at (J). Although many times, he does seem very empathetic towards the patients, in an almost F-like manner, I believe ultimately he is a T. If he feels the right away to accomplish something goes against the patients will, he will do it regardless. Displaying a classic T attitude, he usually chooses to be honest rather than catering to the feelings of someone else. He once told Cameron straight forwarded that they will never be friends and she is nothing more than a colleague to him. The most telling aspect of Foreman's character is when he left House's staff and sought employment elsewhere. He was unable to hold down a job because he had adopted House's NT utilitarian traits. Dr. Allison Cameron - Best Guess: ENFP - Cameron is easily the most impulsive (P) and sensitive member on the team (F). She is quick to make (or deny) medical judgements based on her feelings. She tends to be very idealistic (NF) in her outlook--not only with the patients--but even with the other doctors. House, who is notoriously rude and insensitive, does not phase Cameron. Dr. Robert Chase - Best Guess: ISTP - The Australian, Dr. Chase, like Dr. Cameron is of a very impulsive nature (P). He is quick to argue in what he believes in and often times it involves a very SP utilitarian manner in that--like the rest of the staff--innovative thinking takes precedence over established guidelines. Like many STP's, he occasionally can become emotionally fired up over some situations. However, it usually stems out of frustration when things are not going his way or to his liking. When he was initially let go of by House, he became fairly hardened to the situation once the initial feelings wore off (T). Strongest Letter(s): P

The New Team

Dr. Chris Taub - Best Guess: ENTP; possibly ESTP - Taub, although being new to House's team, will not hesitate to go against him. The rules do not always apply to Taub if there is a better way. Although "only" being a plastic surgeon he is able to succeed in a more intensive environment with his creative problem solving. Strongest Letter(s): TP

Dr. Lawrence Kutner - Best Guess: ESFP- Kutner is easily the most enthusiastic member on this new team. Or even the old one for that matter. And he does not hesitate to do whatever House wants him to do (often times against the rules). He has that SFP feel in that he seems to radiate a fun and pleasant attitude. He is easily distracted and likes to take things with a a casual attitude. Strongest Letter(s): FP

Thirteen - Best Guess: ISTP; possibly ISFP - The (for now) nameless "Thirteen" is an intensely private (I) doctor. She is often compared to Cameron as the young female doctor on the team--but they could not be more different. Whereas Cameron is emotional and quick to reveal what she is thinking, Thirteen only speaks when she needs to. She chooses not give away any private information about herself to the others. This strikes me as an oddly T trait. Character Analysis: The characters on 24 do not last for a long time. Most are killed off or are never heard from again. So despite the limited information we have on some, let us try to see why each one acts the way they do.

Meet the Characters:

Jack Bauer - Best Guess: ISTP - Jack is the quintessential ISTP. He is very impulsive (P) and prefers to use his tools (weapons, fists, etc.) over word (negotiating, discussion, etc). There is nothing overly deep about Jack's persona. Like most SP's, the rules do not apply to him. He does what needs to be done in order to get things done. He is the ultimate utilitarian and an SJ's worst nightmare. In one circumstance, he even allowed himself to become dependent on heroin in order to fulfill an assignment. He has no boundaries or limits of what he will or will not do. Even when he tries to maintain a low profile, the need for excitement (or simply the boredom) usually brings him out of hiding. Outside of the well being of his own family, Jack does not have time to search out his feelings. He is simply a machine and every emotion is bottled up. On occasion, he will let his guard down and express regret, joy, or sorrow. But this is only done at the end of a long days work... Strongest Letter(s): TP

Chloe O'Brian - Best Guess: INTP - Chloe is socially awkward (I) and is best utilized when in front of a computer where her specialties far excel that beyond of a normal user. This is simply a trait of an NT. She always speaks what is on her mind and it is often done without any common tact whatsoever. Traditional values do not really apply to her. He is always deliberate in his actions and will seek a second opinion if needed. Of course, that does not mean he will concede his responsibility. He is never afraid to make the hard decisions. Michelle Dessler - Best Guess: ESFJ; possibly ISFJ - Michelle tends to be a rule follower (SJ) and thus is promoted to head of CTU at one point. Being a friendly-minded guardian, she does well in her job as a liaison between different government agencies. ISFJ's can be very good diplomats. Wayne Palmer - Best Guess: ESTP - If Wayne's brother David is the logical one, than Wayne is the impulsive. When it comes to tough decisions, they do not come very easily for him (P). Secretary of Defense James Heller - Best Guess: ESTJ - Heller is a patriot and a politician. The way he treats his children--he is adamantly opposed to the radical political ideals of his NF son, and he prefers keeping Audrey away from Jack who has a knack for a dangerous lifestyle--shows his conservative ideals (SJ). He will always choose duty over personal feelings (T). Strongest Letter(s): TJ

Meet the Characters

Lorelai Gilmore - Best Guess: ESFP; with NF Leanings - Lorelai may be perhaps the most talkative character on television (EEE!!!) and simply has a witty response for everything. Being irresponsible at a young age, and becoming pregnant with her daughter Rory at 16--while not being married--she choose to leave the proper and materialistic life of her parents behind so she can raise her daughter in a small-town atmosphere in an idealistic setting. Lorelai--whether intentionally or not--throws herself in the center of attention no matter where she is. Most conversations with her revolve around pop culture references, gossip, or other down to earth topics (S). She lives life with a carefree attitude and takes things one day at a time. There is no long-term planning with Lorelai. As long as she is (1) having fun and (2) close to her daughter, there isn't much else she needs to be happy (SFP). She does have a slight leaning towards an NF side in that she is a romantic. Strongest Letter(s): EEEFFFPPP!

Rory Gilmore - Best Guess: INFJ with SJ leanings - Rory is an extremely shy (I) and studious person (J). Meet the Characters

Dr. John 'J.D.' Dorian - Best Guess: ENFP; with I leanings - J.D. is easily the most laid-back person (P) on this staff and most of his surroundings are completely lost on him. In fact, he is such a P that when many of the extreme J's at Sacred Heart try to push him around, he is completely unphased by it. And if forcibly confronted, he will always back down as he wants nothing to do with any negative confrontation. Unlike SP's, who are traditionally well-coordinated, J.D. is very clumsy and really can not dance well. This fact, along with his fanciful world of daydreaming, J.D. is a very solid N. Despite the many moments of him being lost in his own thoughts (I), he thrives on the company of others (E). He is constantly seeking harmonious relationships (F). And when it comes to the extremely tough-minded Dr. Cox, JD dreams of having this idealistic student-mentor relationship with him and wants nothing more than to have his approval and praise. Character Analysis: Boston Legal is easily the quirkiest law drama written. Let us now attempt to dissect the inner workings of this ever-revolving cast. My first impression is that the employees of Crane Poole & Schmidt will be T heavy. Let us see if this is true.

Meet the Characters

Alan Shore - Best Guess: INTP; possibly ISTP - Alan Shore is one of the most well-written TV characters of the new millennium. He is so complex that I found him difficult to profile. His knack for being witty as well as quick with the tongue inside the courtroom is usually characteristics of an extrovert. Alan, however, is a quiet person and often private (I). Though he can be social with the best of them, his preferred moment is on the quiet balcony with his best friend, Denny, where they can have thoughtful conversation over a glass of Scotch. Though a sensitive person (see the way he treats and respects Denny), Alan is a T in that he can represent any person on any topic on a legal level. He is able to put his own emotions aside and argue against what he may actually believe in. And he can do this in a very convincing manner. The way he improvises, chooses principle over established rules, and is a master of words, shows to me that Alan is a very healthy NT. While many INTP's are absent-minded and often quirky, Alan has things together very well. Possibly because he has a very strong S side as well. Strongest Letter(s): TP

Denny Crane - Best Guess: ESTP - Two words: "Denny Crane". His own name being his favorite phrase, Denny is a salesman. He sells himself. One wonders how well he performed as a lawyer prior to his senility. Denny also loves guns and has been know to fire one inside a courtroom--a typical STP trait. Being married several times, and blowing through woman, Denny is far from a traditional SJ. No, he is an SP that lives in the moment and leaves his worries behind. Once he becomes bored, he moves on. Shirley Schmidt - Best Guess: ISFJ - Shirley is the protector of this firm. If Paul and Carl keep the administrative duties in line, Shirley keeps the principles and relationships in order. In fact, she does it in almost a motherly way. While being an organized person (J), the paperwork is best left up to others. She has greater responsibilities to deal with such as protecting the reputation of this firm and most notably--the reputation of Denny Crane, who has lost his ability as a once renowned attorney because of old age. Brad Chase - Best Guess: ISTJ - This former Marine take the rules very seriously. Being chronically stiff, with an obvious void in humor, and always clean cut--he is an STJ through and through. Paul Lewiston - Best Guess: ISTJ - Paul is the one attorney who is never seen speaking in the court room. This, of course, is not to say that he is unable to--it is simply not his job. When he is in the court room, it is merely to inspect the proceedings. However, most of the time you will find Paul roaming the halls of Crane Poole & Schmidt merely keeping a watchful eye over this wayward firm. While not a senior partner, they have confidently given him the duty of keeping things in order as well as the menial paperwork that needs to be processed. Who else but an ISTJ can accomplish this? I just cannot see a true ISTJ being successful as a lead attorney. Obviously Paul found his niche as an administrator in the legal world. How fitting. Strongest Letter(s): IJ

Denise Bauer - Best Guess: ESTJ; possibly ISTJ - Denise is a seriously driven woman who is often bossy. One wonders if she would be effective in middle-management? I say yes. She is quick to take the lead and does not let her emotions influence her. This is seen greatly with her relationship with Brad. She easily separates pleasure and emotion. She is greatly dismayed because she must give up her legal career in order to be be an at-home mother (T). Strongest Letter(s): J

Jerry Espenson - Best Guess: INTJ; possibly INTP - Jerry is simply too smart for his own good. Like most people with aspergers syndrome, Jerry excels in one area (retaining facts) while being weak in another (social functions). This form of autism is often found in people with NT inclinations. When inside a courtroom or at the bargaining table, (and when under control), Jerry can be a wealth of knowledge and quite an asset to have backing you up. Unfortunately, he usually is unable to contain his quirks and often receives dirty looks from the opposition. One of the first woman to fall in love with Jerry--despite his many issues, turned out to be a part-time call-girl. Jerry quickly dismissed his emotions for her and refused to talk to her again. He is a strong T and everything he does is logical to him. Strongest Letter(s): NT

Clarence Bell - Best Guess: INFP - Clarence is extremely shy (I) and often overly sensitive (F). However, what we know best about him is that he is a person without any confidence--until he (cross dresses!) and turns himself into his alter-ego Clarice. This sounds like a man who has some issues from the past to deal with. A classic INFP. What more needs to be said? Strongest Letter(s): All.

Carl Sack - Best Guess: ISTJ - Carl is perfect as Paul's successor. They basically carry the same responsibilities in this office. Unlike Paul who has a limited sense of humor, Carl can be extremely sarcastic (T). While Paul is a very strong S, Carl has some N leanings. This makes him able to be more effective as he--unlike Paul--will get directly involved and handle legal cases. He can think outside of the box like many NT's do. Ultimately, however, he is bound by the rules and does not always appreciate the incredibly outlandish cases this firm often takes on. This pushes Carl back into the box that is of an ISTJ. Katie Lloyd - Best Guess: ISFP; possibly ISFJ - Katie is very sensitive to the emotions of others. The best example of this is with her relationship with Jerry. She is extremely protective of him as he copes with his anxieties. Being perhaps the most gentle and laid-back person in this TJ office, she keeps a calming influence as the lone ISFP. Tara Wilson - Best Guess: ESTP - Tara does not make much of an impact on this firm in many ways other than in relationship themes. As a paralegal, she merely assists with the trials. She is usually quiet, seems superficial, and dresses to be noticed, often an SP trait. But I do not believe she fits the profiles of an ISTP or ISFP. That is because she is actually an E. Lori Colson - Best guess: ISFJ - Lori seems to be a typical SJ who follows the rules. In fact, she was once a District Attorney who enforced the law. Despite being in an office where there are many "fun" themes, she is no nonsense and simply does not have the time to be involved. Her only concern is work--not to be social (I) or establish relationships. Her close friends are fellow SJ's Paul and Shirley who are also conservative. She grappled with the idea of defending those may be guilty (F). She seems to fight for principle and for what is right; this is not the law firm she should be working for. Meet the Characters

Michael Bluth - Best Guess: ISTJ - Michael is the glue that holds this unloving family together. All he is trying to do is bring respectability back to his family and put them back on the right side of the law. It is his entire role in this show. Naturally, being an -STJ he replaces his father as president of The Bluth Company--and does well at this job bringing stability back. Bringing stability back to his family may be even to much for this ISTJ. Strongest Letter(s): J

Lindsay Bluth Fünke - Best Guess: ESFP - Lindsay represents an extreme and unbalanced ESFP. She is completely superficial in every aspect and wants to be nothing but the center of attention. Everything she does is a performance--but no one is ever watching. And like many ESFP's, when no one looks, they are easily hurt. This is particularly seen with her husband Tobias who seems to be an in-the-closet gay man (even he doesn't know). Therefore, he is not the least interested in the advances of his attractive wife. George "Gob" Bluth II - Best Guess: ESTP - Gob is an ESTP looking for a scandal--but there is a problem: He has no significant real world experience--despite being over thirty years old--so he uses magic and trickery as an outlet. He really is not a very effective ESTP salesman because his tricks often fail and the Magicians alliance have shunned him. Taking after his ESTP father, he is quick to turn his loyalty away. Unlike his father who has no regard, Gob really only has the boldness to mistreat his brothers, Michael and Buster. In the end, because Gob is not a very strong T--part of his failure as an ESTP--he is quick to beg for mercy. Strongest Letter(s): EP

George-Michael Bluth - Best Guess: ISFJ - Just like his father Michael, George-Michael is unlike anyone else in this family because he actually respects the rules and tries to live by them (SJ). He is a good student and much of his screen time is in his room--he is doing his homework. He is a very sensitive kid and it does not take much for him to walk around with this head down (F). He is often easily pushed around by his two female interests. The fact that one of the girls is his cousin (sort of?) shows there is not much logic with this how this boy reasons (F). Byron "Buster" Bluth - Best Guess: INFP - Really, can one classify Buster? I believe he does not fit in any of the 16 categories. Perhaps there are some aspects about Buster that one can analyze if you look very closely. He is extremely sensitive (F). Socially awkward to the highest degree (I). He is about 30 years old and still lives with his mother because he cannot hold down a job--or even qualify for one. This is all evidence of an extreme P. So is Buster an INFP or ISFP? Given the choice, I suppose he is an INFP as he has some baggage to deal with (i.e. Mommy issues) and resides in a different (mental) world than many (N). He displays zero artistic skills and is not one with nature--so this would effectively rule out an ISFP. Tobias Fünke - Best Guess: ENFP - Tobias lives in a fantasy world (N). He is the ultimate P in that he just cannot decide on a career path--doctor, actor, etc--and when he does (acting--an EFP choice), he bounces from job to job. That is, when he even puts forth effort looking for work. He is quick to join conversation (E), but often walks away with his feelings hurt (F) in this insensitive family. Then there is his gay leanings--that even he cannot see. I am not sure how this fits into his personality, but it just needs to be mentioned because it is the focus (unintentionally) of almost everything he does (and says). George Bluth Sr - Best Guess: ESTP - George is a sales man and is in prison for a scandal. Is there any more description required to prove that one is an ESTP? Well, there is one more trait that he has that leave no doubt of his profile. He is a user and a manipulator. He would scam his own children--and has--if it benefits him in anyway. Even when he is on the run from prison and at the mercy of his family, he has no heart. He is constantly throwing his twin brother--Oscar--under the bus in order to escape from the law. Lucille Bluth - Best Guess: ESTJ - What one personality may be able to keep ESTP George Sr in order? It would be the ESTJ supervisor. Lucille does not shrink back from her husband George and she is the one that is less often scandalized by George. While not a pure rule follower like a good SJ, she does try to maintain a traditional family (SJ) which is one of the few things she does care about. However, being so T, she usually walks over the feelings of her family--Buster being the easiest target--in order to maintain her own values of what she considers tradition--or what she thinks needs to be done in order to maintain it. She is not to be confused with utilitarian ENTJ--which is essentially an ESTJ that does what is needed to be done, not what the rule book says. Why? She is not a big-picture person (like an NT), nor is she an abstract thinker (by any means!). Character Analysis: Today we review the cast of The Office [US]. One of the greatest aspects of this series is that not only are the main characters strong, but so is the entire cast of supporting roles. Each smaller role brings so much to the entire ensemble. Let's look at each member of the Dunder-Mifflin company.

Meet the Characters

Michael Scott - Best Guess: ESFP - Almost every word and action Michael displays, he is essentially saying, "Pay attention to me! Look at me!". This is a great example of what happens to an ESFP that becomes starved for attention and fails to be popular with ones peers: They become desperate attention whores. Almost nothing Michael does is related to his work--but more to do with his yearning for acceptance. And when it does relate to his responsibilities as manager, it becomes about turning a mundane task into a fun project. ESFP's just want to have a good time in everything they do! Every group task can become a game with ESFP's and they always put themselves right in the center. And if an ESFP has their expressions rejected, they easily have their feelings hurt. This is a daily experience for Michael who usually ends up offending one of the F's in the office or completely frustrating a

T--both events that may lead to sharp bursts of anger directed towards him. In fact, it is the core group of ISTJ's in Michael's office who are

most frustrated by his antics. A performer is perhaps the last personality type that any corporation would intentionally choose for middle management. Of course, given the right situation, an ESFP can fit into an office environment to keep things light and the spirits up. Dwight Schrute - Best Guess: ESTJ; leaning ENTJ - Looking at Dwight's interests--he is into odd and eclectic things, he stores useless information, and he watches Battlestar Galactica. All traits of your typical NT. However, Dwight desperately wants to be a leader. Rank and position is very important to him. He'd prefer Michael's job, of course, but since it is not up for grabs, he will settle for number 2. "Assistant [to the] Regional Manager". Because he is an extreme EJ--he simply is too scary for management to ever consider for this position. Of course, being an extreme T, the office F's would probably have their feelings hurt at every turn with Dwight in charge--so any success that he would create, would have its price as half of his staff would quit. He is a very conscience rule follower and is quick to enforce them the moment he receives any power from above. He is a classic ESTJ--who has the appearance and interests of an NT. Jim Halpert - Best Guess: ENTP; possibly ENFP - After writing a complete profile thinking that Jim was an ISFP (his penchant to create fun), then INFJ (his actions toward Pam), it was brought to my attention that these were possibly incorrect profiles and he may be an ENTP. Jim is a gregarious fellow (E) who is constantly exercising his ingenuity in order to frustrate Dwight. One might think Jim has a strong J quality because it seems that he is constantly planning ways to do this--but in reality, he is merely improvising as he goes. ENTP's tend to become easily board; in order to keep themselves interested, they must invent ways to exercise their imagination. Dwight's extreme J nature makes him the easiest target of Jim's activities. ENTP's do not take themselves too seriously and have a built-in laid-back attitude. Jim's entire demeanor--his hairstyle, his dress, his attitude--are of this nature. He does not really worry too much about management (TP), and accomplishing work is not his chief concern--yet, he is not being lazy. He simply is just not that interested in selling paper. However, being an NT, he is able to get things done if pressured and is excellent in improvising ways to do this--and of course, being a

n E helps since he is a salesman and sometimes needs to be social in order to "close the deal". Being closely related to his ESTP cousin, the Super Salesman, gives Jim the ability to succeed when put on the spot. Though Jim is a T, he is not extreme in this. He can be very sensitive and completely considerate of ones feelings. His relationship with Pam is the perfect example of this. He is also not a true E. He sometimes has a tendency to be private and is a very good listener. Jim, however, has a strong sensitive side (F) as well, and while sometimes being a romantic, he has a very strong ENFP leaning. Pam Beesly - Best Guess: ISFP - Pam is perh

aps the nicest and sweetest person one can ever meet. No wonder she was hired as a receptionist. She would never say anything negative about anything or anyone--and the times she does, it is usually followed by a giggle or guilty look. She is quiet (I) and unassuming. She just wants to be part of the fun--not the center of attention. ISFP's tend to be the most artistic of all 16 profiles, and we know Pam likes to draw. If she had more ambition (not many IFP's do) she could actually make a career as an artist--rather than a receptionist. ISFP's may be the most patient of all types and we see she was extraordinarily patient during her relationship with Roy. In fact, she is so nice that she even gave this clown a second chance. Ryan Howard - Best Guess: ESTP - When Ryan was "just" a temp worker he sat in the background not participating in the antics that went on at this Dunder-Mifflin office. One would initially think he is an introvert and he is a rule follower. As we see, Ryan quickly rises in the corporate ladder faster than anyone else, and by season 4--is regional manager. Things are accomplished fast and he keeps the office in line. Whenever he needs to adjust somebody (i.e. Jim), he does it in a very cold manner and without regard for their feelings. It is when he is in charge and in control do we see his extroverted confidence take over (E). He simply does not like anyone in this office and has no need to give them his time of day--it has nothing to do with shyness (T). Are not these the typical actions of a corporate-minded ESTJ? In the end, his true priorities are seen--and following the rules is not one of them as he is arrested for fraud and scandal. Using his ESTP salesmen prowess, he influences his way to the top. These Promoters alienate personal relationships very easily and without regard. Ryan drops Kelly once it requires any effort to carry on in this relationship. In true ESTP fashion, he loses interest very quickly. Kelly, to say the least, is not happy about this. Additionally, looking at his appearance--hair style, scruffy facial hair (at one point)--further cements the fact that he is SP-minded. Ryan is a true ESTP who has been able to mimic the actions have an STJ. Strongest Letter(s): T

Stanley Hudson - Best Guess: ISTJ - Stanley is serious minded (T) and is totally introverted (I). He just wants to be left alone. The office performers Andy, Kelly and Michael (most of all) simply drive Stanley nuts. He is also a strict rule follower (SJ) and Michael's disregard for the rules--as the boss no less!--clashes with Stanley's style. Strongest Letter(s): IJ

Kevin Malone - Best Guess: ISFP - Kevin is a musician--another result of being an ISFP which is an artistic type. We saw this with Pam the artist and we see it here too with Kevin the musician. He just likes to have fun and play around. It is odd that he is an accountant. One wonders if he actually knows how to count? He is usually being brushed aside by ISTJ Angela (also an accountant) who has no regard for Kevin's feelings. Strongest Letter(s): IP

Angela Martin - Best Guess: ISTJ - Angela is an extreme ISTJ. She is a strict rule-follower and one of the few in this office that prefers to actually work. ISTJ's make the perfect accountants--so no surprise here based on what she does at the office. Her most glaring letter is her T. Most female T's tend to be balanced. Not Angela. She shows no emotion in anything and appears to be stoic most of the time. The exception is when she becomes visibly annoyed by Michael (her boss), Dwight (her romantic interest), Phyllis (her competitor), or Kevin (her deskmate). It is ironic she is on the party-planning committee. Typically, all party ideas Angela comes up with are completely traditional and conservative. As the leader of this committee she constantly is shooting down the artistic ideas of Pam and Phyllis. Strongest Letter(s): TJ

Phyllis Lapin - Best Guess: ISFP - At first glance, I thought Phyllis was an ISFJ because she is conservative, sensitive and respects the rules. But if you look deeper, you realize she is very bashful. She constantly is trying to open up her artistic and playful side--but Michael shuts her down rudely each time. Her feelings are often hurt and ISFP's tend to be very sensitive because they are genuinely a kind personality--any rejection really hurts. Another reason I do not believe she is a J is that, like Pam--a fellow ISFP--she is capable of doing work. But when things start to get fun in the office, she is usually one of the first ones checking out what is going on, and she looks guilty for doing it. SP's just can not look away from fun. Meredith Palmer - Best Guess: ISTP - Once you dig into Meredith's shell, you will quickly see she is one hardened woman with no emotional reponses. The closest thing she has towards emotion is addiction. She struggles to come to terms with anything F. Like most SP's, Meredith lives in the here and now and does not show any foresight with her actions. Strongest Letter(s): FP
Kelly Kapoor - Best Guess: ESFP - Kelly may be the most extreme example of an ESFP. She does not stop talking and it is always about what Kelly wants to talk about. And it is usually superficial. One never sees Kelly work. If the cameras are on her--she has something to say, and she has to look good saying it. She is also an incredibly emotional F (see her relationship with Ryan) and does not handle negative feelings well. I am pretty sure every letter in her ESFP is as extreme as they can be. Toby Flenderson - Best Guess: ISFJ; possibly INFJ - ISFJ's are perfect at Human Resources--which is where Toby works. Human Resources need a rule-following SJ that is mild, yet sensitive (F). Because Toby is so I and F, he let's Michael walk all over him. He would never admit it outwardly, but his feelings constantly get hurt. In an NF twist, all he really wants to do is make sure that the relationships and feelings in the office are all cared for and in harmony--and then he can stay in his corner and mind his own business. The fact that he picked up and ran to Costa Rica shows. Strongest Letter(s): IJ

Creed Bratton - Best Guess: INTP - Ah, Creed. The most enigmatic character. One wonders how he was hired in Quality Assurance. In fact, INTP's are the most absent-minded types--they would be at the risk of forgetting their own name. Creed was once asked what his job tittle was and he could not think of it. No, Creed lives in a different world and no one can see (or guess) what he is thinking. He never really plans on what he is going to do next--like his INTJ cousin--instead, he just takes things as they are when they come up (P). And if there is a chance to break the rules for his own benefits--it wouldn't even phase him. In fact, Creed probably does not even know what the rules are because they usually are not a factor with the plans of an NT. Rather, they live by their own set of standards. Strongest Letter(s): P

Oscar Martin

ez - Best Guess: ISTJ - Like ISTJ Angela, ISTJ Oscar is an accountant--completely appropriate for his profile. This match means Oscar is one of the few in the office that actually accomplishes something. I do not believe Oscar being gay is relevant to his personality. Although ISTJ's tend to respect tradition and they like to fit in with their environments (like all good SJ's)--so it takes a while for Oscar to reveal his lifestyle to his co-workers out of respect for traditional values. Jan Levinson - Best Guess: ESTJ; leaning ESFJ - Jan once was a healthy ESTJ who easily took the lead and encouraged the rules to be followed. Her stressful ESTJ nature led to a flame-out. So much of what she does in season 4 (and after) does not reflect her true personality. Like many ESTJ's, they often alienate personal relationships; and because of this, they look for acceptance anywhere they can find it. This may explain her breast implants and her relationship with Michael. Strongest Letter(s): SJ

Andy Bernard - Best Guess: ESFP - Andy may be your model ESFP. He sings, he entertains, he does voices, he just performs all around. And he actually does it well! He is simply a good-hearted man (FP) who no one can ever ignore. That is, except in this office of extremes. He clashes with the ISTJ's who grow tired of his antics, his rival is an insensitive ENTJ consumed by jealousy, and he has to play second fiddle to Michael--a far less effective ESFP but unfortunately for Andy--is the man in charge. So the potentially effective role that Andy contributes--is often ignored. It is a sad plight as ESFP's tend to be overly sensitive. Strongest Letter(s): EP

Roy Anderson - Best Guess: ISTP - Most ISTP's are independent and do not need the approval of others nor do they follow the rules. We saw what happened with his broken engagement to Pam. He simply didn't feel the need to get married at the time so her feelings weren't something that even phased him. He only allowed himself to become engaged, most likely, out of pressure or to stall for time. ISTP's don't often plan into the distant future. What did he think would happen after getting engaged and not following through? No, Roy is selfish and does what is best for Roy. This is just part of his intensely independent nature that many ISTP's display. ISTP's usually do not work in office's because they prefer to craft with their own hands--and they do not have time for paperwork and computers. And this is why Roy works in the warehouse. Darryl Philbin - Best Guess: ISTP - Just like Roy, Darryl does not need to mess around with paperwork. And just like Roy, he works in the warehouse. One might see similarities between Roy (STP) and Pam's (SFP) relationship, as they do with Darryl (STP) and Kelly's (SFP). Darryl seems to be involved because it is just the thing to do at the moment--a typical SP attribute who tend to live for the here and now. Kelly is emotionally vested to Darryl and it seems Darryl will give her a rude awakening somewhere down the line. This will happ

Holly Flax - Best Guess: IXXP - Holly is an Enigma. Outside of her more subdued season 7 appearances, she is a tough one to figure out. The reasons that she gets along so well with Michael is that they both have an extremely strong P side. Although later, Holly is able to reign this aspect in compared to her early showing. Though she is one that can have strong opinions, she is obviously on the Introverted (I) side and does not like confrontation (unlike Michael who seems to feed off of it). I do believe she has N tendencies if not an outright N simply because her mind seems to be less grounded than most; she appears to have that "I am not entirely here" feel to her. I find it puzzling that she relates so well to Michael in a rare S/N relationship that does work (assuming she even is an N). I would be inclined to say that she is a T, but it may be more of an odd SJ slant that comes with her character (loyalty, rule abiding, etc.); she seems to suffer from internal emotional conflicts as well and does quite well in bottling them in. Gabe Lewis - Best Guess: ISTJ w/ N slants - Gabe is another tough one to figure out. So let is go with what is obvious: He is obviously an introvert simply by observing his general nature. In his quasi-management position, he obviously needs to be (and mostly is) a strong TJ. He has many SJ characteristics. Clean cut, proper, rule abiding, organized (simply look at his dress as well as an episode that shows his house). On the surface, it appears that he is an ISTJ and very well may be. But on occasion, he seems to show signs that rules must be followed, not because they are rules, but simply because he does not want to be disturbed. As an NJ perhaps appreciates structure, but only on the "principle" level. I am not fully convinced that this necessarily means that Gabe is of the intuitive sort, but simply can lean in that direction. Strongest Letter(s): TJ

Erin Hannon - Best Guess: ISFP - Erin is just a happy person who is unquestionably nice, forgiving, and extreme naive to anything that is negative around her. She seems to have two types of reactions: One of playful happiness, or one of shock. She is either laughing at, well, whatever her co-workers are saying, or, she stands back in a state of *gasp!* at the juvenile happenings of Dunder-Mifflen. She shows great P tendencies as she is willing to go with whatever the others around are doing. She is the perfect compliment to Michael's uber-spontaneous ways. Strongest Letter(s): FP

Karen Filippelli - Best Guess: ISTJ; natural F leanings - Karen is a character that does not seem to have many layers. She is exactly what she appears to be. She obviously gains a management position eventually due to merit so this mostly cements her SJ credibility (In addition to the fact that she has never showed any signs of caring about anything that was not a grounded topic or directly related to what she can see in front of her.). Karen does not need to seek out people for attention nor does she get off on being confrontational, she is an exceptionally balanced introvert. Her tough-minded side does show that she will not back down when needed. With that being said, she is a "softer" T and showing feeling is not too difficult when needed; this aspect is as balanced as her I. Strongest Letter(s): S

After looking at the overall personalities of this office, it is no wonder why nothing ever gets done here. The ISJ's here--Toby, Angela, Oscar, and Stanley--are the only reliable people who do anything productive at Dunder-Mifflen in Scranton. These four are seemingly surrounded by SP's with a few head cases mixed in. No wonder why these four spend most of their screen time annoyed and frustrated.

Meet the Characters

President Jed Bartlet - Best Guess: ENTJ - President Bartlett is a man of vision. He is quick with decisions (J), he has no problem being objective (or tough) on those whom he is close to (T), and he thrives on the company of others (E). This only leaves one question. N or S? ESTJ's are all of the above. But they are restricted. Restricted by the rules of the game. Bartlet, obviously as the President has to follow the rules, and he does when possible. But he is not afraid to set new policies or new precedences for others. He is not afraid of change. And he makes the rational decision--not just decisions based on tradition or policy. If an ESTJ is a leader, the ENTJ is the super leader. Strongest Letter(s): EJ

Abbey Bartlet - Best Guess: ENFJ - Dr. Abbey Bartlett is a woman who likes an audience to talk to. She can be confrontational while aggressively judging (J) based on her emotional (F) reasoning. Rather than run from a confrontation she will come find it (EJ). She is a solid E, F, and J, no doubt. So, once again, we come to this: Is she an N or an S? As an ESFJ she would be the caring motherly type, always providing for the needs of everyone. While she can do this to an extent, I see her as a big picture type--not just worrying about being the good host. This fact, along with being a doctor, leads me to believe that Abbey is an ENFJ. Leo McGarry - Best Guess: ISTJ - Leo is the Chief of Staff for President Bartlett. One of the reasons that he is so successful at this is because he is an ISTJ. One important trait of a true ISTJ--which Leo is--is that they are masters at scheduling. And scheduling the day for the President is one of his important tasks. Also, as a Chief of Staff, he is a personal confidant to the President. The President turns to his Chief for their opinions on critical matters. Many times the President will act on information given to him by the Chief of Staff himself--even if it is a sensitive judgment call. We see this many times between Leo and Bartlett. ISTJ's make excellent leaders themselves and are not afraid to make decision in a hurry--but prefer to do so behind closed doors--just like this Chief of Staff. Strongest Letter(s): IJ

Josh Lyman - Best Guess: ESTP - Josh is a fast-talking (E) salesmen. It is no wonder why that one of his primary responsibilities it to work directly with the opposing congressmen and "wheel and deal" away. Work comes before everything else with Josh--even relationships. In fact, he choose to alienate one female companion because he essentially decided a political policy was more important than his romantic feelings for her. Think T much? Josh is not an incredibly deep character--but he is a fun one. Just like most ESTP's. (Exceptions granted). When he is assisting with the campaign of Idealistic Matt Santos, Josh displayed his S qualities that kept Santos grounded into reality. Josh is terrific at observing and seeing what is in front of him and around him. However, he does have some subtle N traits in that he does look at the big picture. But I believe this is mostly due to patriotism; not idealism. Strongest Letter(s): ET

Toby Ziegler - Best Guess: INTP; with F leanings - Toby is the conscience of the staff and desperately tries to maintain the dignity of The Office with the ideals of what it should represent. And to try to attempt this would take a serious toll on only one person. And this is exactly what we see with Toby who is always seemingly walking with his head down as if the world has trampled all over him. Toby is seemingly an F who becomes emotionally vested with any task/responsibility/duty/project that he is involved in. But I believe ultimately, it is his strong principles that are behind this. He has a heavy T-side to him in that he finds it difficult to display empathy towards others. He displays INTP traits in that he looks at the big picture rather than making initial judgements. He has shown to break the established rules (legally or otherwise) if the principle is sound. He is often disappointed and let down with the corrupt and superficial world that is politics. It seems, in his eyes, he is fighting a losing battle. Often times his frustrations becomes greatly manifested when all he is trying to do is make this world a better place and fix all its problems! C.J. Cregg - Best Guess: ENFP; Possibly ENFJ - One would think C.J. has a very easily pegged personality. I have found this is not the case. So let's look at what we know. She is the press secretary. This requires her to be extroverted. Not a job for an Introvert. In at least two traumatic situations--the murder of a male love interest and the health of her father--she handles them in an extremely emotional manner. However, with the exception of the most hardened T's, many would handle these situations the same way. So we must look deeper. C.J. tends to be clumsy and in some situations (outside of the press room) overwhelmed. I believe these can be subtle attributes of FP characteristics. She is deeply caring and a sensitive person--also traits of an FP. To cement the fact that she is a P, one only needs to look how she handles the press. Knowing she can not lie, she often needs to improvise while simply masking the truth. This is something an EP would be very capable of doing. So, is she an ESFP or ENFP? I just do not see her seeking attention as a performer would, but I can see her getting up and leaving the country for a job of goodwill. In reality she would never do this of course. Her NF side is just not that strong--so she is stuck in politics because it is what she does best. Until further notice, ENFP it is. Strongest Letter(s): EF

Sam Seaborn - Best Guess: ENFP; possibly ENFJ - Sam is people-oriented and is just a friendly person to be around, as are most EFP's. Being occasionally impulsive and absent-minded, I believe he is a P (but very balanced). Sam is a speech writer, so one would assume being an idealistic NF is a good thing here. In fact, when Sam unintentionally slept with a D.C. call girl, he continued his relationship even after learning of this fact despite the possible damage to his reputation. In an NF type idealistic move, he even tried to help her become a "better" person--much to her chagrin. However, what is the most telling aspect of his personality? He eventually leaves the President's inner staff in order to run for for the office of a Democratic congressman--in a Republican district. One would think this is a demotion? This is not a decision that a rational NT, a hard-nosed STP, or a shrewd SJ would make. No, he did this because he was going to honor the campaign of an older man who died while running for office. And if things weren't hard enough in this campaign, it was thought to be a no-win scenario. Sam does win and does take the Congress seat because he feels it is the right thing to do. This screams to me ENFP. Sam is the champion! Strongest Letter(s): EP

Charlie Young - Best Guess: ISTJ; possibly ISFJ - Charlie is a quiet (I), yet very reliable (J) personal assistant to President Bartlett. Though he has a sense of humor and has been known to participate in some limited forms of practical joking, he would never outwardly break the rules. This fact--along with being very loyal to President Bartlett--tells me he is an SJ. So is he an F or T? I believe in this one area he tends to straddle the fence. While Leo--also an ISTJ--can be a formidable character, Charlie can be kind and sensitive. But in the end, he always will do what is logical and will keep his emotions in check (see the kidnapping of Zooey). He is an ISTJ. Strongest Letter(s): IJ

Donna Moss - Best Guess: ESFP - Donna is not a politician. In fact, there are a very few amount of ESFP politicians around and for good reason. Not a lot would get accomplished. They just want to have some fun. (Ironically Bill Clinton was an ESFP President; we saw how that worked out.) However, an SFP would make for a terrific office assistant in a tense environment; and that is where Donna's role comes in. Surrounded by so many overworked staff members, Donna is usually the one that eases the tension and makes the witty comment or says just enough to make them smile. Her playful banter with ESTP Josh--her direct supervisor--always keeps things moving (just as one would expect in conversations between two extroverted SP's). Strongest Letter(s): FP

Will Bailey - Best Guess: ESTJ - Sam's initial replacement, Will, starts out as a speech writer. He is initially given a team of interns to help him with an important speech that is extremely time-sensitive. Will had no problem dictating to these young woman what to do and had them up all night doing it. This natural bit of delegation was very easy for him--once he became organized--being that he is an STJ. Will is very ambitious and quickly moves on to join the Vice President's staff because it is an opportunity to climb the positional ladder faster in the short term--further cementing his SJ nature. This rash career change shows his poor judgment and lack of "big picture" thinking ability as the Vice President clearly is not presidential material. He is too occupied only with what is in front of him, just like an S would be. I will settle on Will being an E slightly more so than an I because of his potentially demanding nature. He also tends to speak before he thinks. Strongest Letter(s): SJ

Congressman Matthew Santos - Best Guess: ENFP - As a presidential candidate, Matthew Santos clearly displays an N-like quality as his head is constantly in the clouds. He is caught up in his own idealism and (what he considers) his perfect ideas that will make the country a better place. He starts off completely ignorant of the ways of a politician who are taught to tell the crowd what they want to hear. He feels strongly on his policy ideas and he wants the people to know where he stands. He is almost emotional when he speaks of these things. He is not your normal political candidate. He needs STP Josh who is much more grounded in reality to guide him in the ways. If Santos displays any S-like qualities, it is only because Josh is behind it and urging him on. Senator Arnold Vinick - Best Guess: INTJ - Like Santos, as a Presidential candidate, Arnold Vinick does not feel he needs to tell the crowds what they want to hear. However, they have completely different thought processing behind their thinking. While Santos is idealistic, Vinick is pragmatic. He tells the crowds what makes sense, what is logical. He is not an SJ who will follow a traditional course, rather he is an NT who will look at the big picture--even if it upsets those in front of him. Because Santos is an F, he will occasionally give in to the pressure to do what is traditional. Vinick, however, is a strong T and will not allow the common opinions sway his course. Strongest Letter(s): TJ

Vice President Bob Russell - Best Guess: ESTP - This Vice President has a very ISTP like image as the "cowboy from out west". Because it is only an image, he is actually an ESTP who knows all about portraying certain qualities. Granted, this may be easier for him because he is very close to being an ISTP, and he does not seem like an overly extroverted type, I believe he ultimately is an E. He shows he is very clever with words, more so than his "tools" (of an ISTP). As a presidential candidate, he talks the talk and is very much a crowd pleaser--a salesmen of sorts. He comes of very superficial and attempts to act like he is a caring person who only cares about doing what is right; in actuality, and like a good ESTP, he is only promoting whatever it is that works best for him and his career. Kate Harper - Best Guess: ISTJ - The first aspect you may notice about Kate is that she is an extremely low-key person (I); as a former intelligence officer and current Deputy National Security Advisor, she is required to analyze and look objectively at the world scene in order to pass on information to those who need it. She does this exceptonally well as she is a very healthy T. Strongest Letter(s): IJ

Annabeth Schott - Best Guess: ESFP - Annabeth is the most bubbly, perky, positive person here. In being this way, she is the anti-Toby. She dresses in bright colors and is always smiling (F). Her responsibilities mostly involve public relations. She is not a politician by any means, but was hired as the Deputy Press Secretary because she does so well handling people (E!). Strongest Letter(s): EF

So, it appears as if there is a good mix of personality on this show-- much more than just your typical SJ political cast. And really, it is the characters and their dialog and personal relationships--not the setting--that drives this show. Not the politics. And that is why Season 5 and 6 are by far the most flat of all 7.

Character Analysis: In my first exploration I will briefly look at the television show Prison Break and give you my analysis of the personality of the cast of characters.

Meet the Characters

Michael Schofield - Best Guess: INTJ - Michael is the Man with the Plan. His words are few, but when he speaks--it is only to advance his plan. And if his plan fails, not a problem. He has a contingency for his contingency. He is the prototypical Mastermind. What else can be said? Rather than taking things as the come--Michael is always one step ahead. Strongest Letter(s): NJ

Lincoln Burrows - Best Guess: ISTP - Like his brother Michael, Link rather not say more than he has too. He rather let his "tools" (i.e. weapons & fists) control his destiny. Like Michael and his personality, Lincoln is a by-the-book ISTP Crafter. Makes one wonder what kind of construction work he is capable of? Strongest Letter(s): TP

Sarah Tancredi - Best Guess: INFP - I can not pin down Sarah's personality type on one pass. This is what I know: She is an Introvert (I), and she is a feeler (F). Many ISFP's enter into the medical industry and this was my gut instinct. ISFJ's are more about protecting the "institution". Sarah went against it in order to help Michael. She has a mysterious side to her which makes me think she is an N. She choose to work as a doctor in a prison--rather than a more conventional-styled job. This is a typical NFP "goodwill" trait. She is attracted to Micheal (an N) on a mental level--which further leads me to believe she is an N in order to have this strong connection. So, based on all of these facts--this would make her an INFP. Most (but not all) INFP's are messed up in some kind of way. While I do not think Sarah is completely "messed up", she does struggle with her own demons when it comes to her prior drug habit and family tensions. This has seemed to make her a withdrawn person as one would see in an INFP. So, all things considered, INFP is my verdict until more details are brought forth. Strongest Letter(s): IF

Fernando Sucre - Best Guess: ESFP - Sucre has a good heart. He just wants to be loved and to love. If he was not a prisoner (or a prisoner on the run) he would constantly be the life of the party. As an SP he is eager to break the rules and buck authority so he is constantly ready to help Michael and Lincoln, but as an ESFP he usually fumbles up the plan with his emotional based impulses. Strongest Letter(s): FP

Theodore "T-bag" Bagwell - Best Guess: ESTP - At first glance, one would not consider T-bag as the "used car salesmen" type. But the more you watch him, the more you see he is a master at manipulating people--but in the creepiest of ways. Because is so often successful--and doesn't quickly lose interest in his manipulations like most ESTP's would--he may have some N leanings. He also is a man with a lot of emotional baggage--sometimes this inadvertently adds some "N" to your personality. But because this baggage has made him hardened--he is a definite T. Strongest Letter(s): P

Brad Bellick - Best Guess: ESTJ - I struggled with Billick. In the end, I settled on ESTJ because he was a relatively successful prison guard (that is, until Michael comes around). I came to this conclusion by the process of elimination. He does not have an N bone in him, and not too many SP's enter law enforcement. He is clearly an extrovert. This leaves T or F? He is not an F because he is certainly not a caring provider by any means. However, he is not a strong T either--but I would venture to guess--still a T. And because his "T" in the ESTJ is rather weak, he is not an effective supervisor. As we see in Season 3, he is a misfit. His character is the strongest when he is the one in charge (i.e. Season 1) but only because others have given him the authority. He is not able to secure it on his own - as we saw in Sona (Season 3) Strongest Letter(s): S

Paul Kellermen - Best Guess: ESTJ; Possibly ISTJ, ENTJ or INTJ - Unlike Billick, Kellerman's ESTJ has a strong "T". While not talkative, he is confident in words and does not hesitate to create confrontation--typical E traits. Again, he is an SJ in law enforcement (of sorts). However, he walks on the shady side, bends the rules when needed, and struggles with internal conflicts. I believe this is because he walks the fine line of S and N. A true SJ would not see the benefit of Kellerman's corrupt line of work--while an N could easily rationalize the rule bending. But I do not believe Kellerman actually crosses over into N-hood. Ultimately, his SJ side wins out as we see with the story line of his character: He was once a man who did not question the work he had chosen, and he loyally followed his superiors--this all came crashing down in the end while he struggles with his thoughts of betrayal. He fits better in an institution and does not cope well on his own. Until the very end, he does not question his superiors. A Typical SJ. Strongest Letter(s): T

Alex Mahone - INTJ; Possibly INTP - Alex is another tough one to figure out. His "medical" addictions change his personality and this somewhat hides his true identity. As an excellent investigator, I believe he is an INTJ . Outside of his family, he is only loyal to what serves him at the moment. That is why I decided he cannot be an ISTJ. His erratic P type behavior and occasional emotional outburst only have to do with his addiction symptoms. Strongest Letter(s): T

Based on my reviews, I have concluded that the two main character's of Michal and Lincoln--are the least complex--in ways of personality. The supporting actors, however, all have their own unique traits.

On this great Tuesday, the 3rd of June of 2008, it has been decided that I will analyze personalities in the style of the MBTI & David Keirsey systems. If you are not familiar with this, I suggest you go here. Because it is not an exact science, I have choose to label each profile with "best guess", because really--that is all it is. There are so many variables and sometimes people see different things. I will start off with a pop culture twist.... fictional personalities. And then see where it goes....
